Beacon on Brook Street Shelter for Women is a low barrier homeless shelter. We are unique in that we allow single women as well as women with children in our shelter. Low barrier means that we don’t require criminal background checks, income verification or identification and we don’t have sobriety requirements. We want women experiencing homelessness to come as they are and we will provide a safe place and daily support focused on overcoming those obstacles that have gotten in the way.

Even though we are low barrier, we have rules in place to ensure everyone’s safety. Some of those rules include not using drugs or alcohol on the premises, coming back to the shelter every night by curfew (8PM/9PM in the summer months), no abusive or violent behavior and no weapons of any kind.
